ABOUT
Matt Headley
I was a pastor for twelve years. I officiated weddings and sat with couples in the months before the ceremony. The credential that matters most isn't the title — it's the room. The couple at the kitchen table. The one who cried during the rehearsal. The ones who fought in the parking lot and came back in to finish the vows. You learn what you learn by being in that room.
Heather and I have done this work too. We've sat in the counselor's chair on the other side of the table. We've been in the hard seasons — the cycles you can't see clearly until someone helps you name what is happening. I am not writing from the outside. I am writing from inside a real marriage that has had to work at it.
Most premarital prep is shallow. One session with the pastor who is officiating. A checklist. A compatibility quiz that tells you what you already know. Tend is something different — six honest conversations before the vows, because the vows are the beginning, not the finish line. I built it because I wish I'd had it. I think you will too.
"The discomfort you feel doing these exercises is cheaper than the silence you'd feel in year three."
